Come round and take a listen to some Floyd, Edgar Broughton, Deep Purple and Roy Harper, and you would be struggling to keep up with the demand for tea and cakes as your mates would be flooding over. Come and take a listen to The battered ornaments, Pete Brown and Piblokto! and a bit of Panama limited and, unsurprisingly, a quiet night would prevail. Sorry mate, ‘washing me hair’; ‘mum wants me to do some homework’; ‘my sister needs picking up’ would come across the airwaves.
Well, you get all this, and some, on this offering. It’s a little like Glastonbury. There is heaps to choose from and not everything will be to your taste but there are surprises along the way. Certainly ‘The Battered Ornaments’ on Side 1 was a sit up and listen moment for me. Likewise, whilst I preferred the first two tracks on Side 2, there is no mistaking the classy bluesy number that comes to the fore courtesy of Bakerloo in the middle of Side 2. It really is a top notch example of hard hitting, brilliantly played Blues.
In summary, they don’t make them like this anymore. In many ways a great idea to get a variety of music across to listeners, all from the same label - Harvest. So unless you are an avid collector of Now LP’s ( and if you are we probably haven’t met before) you will get something pretty unique here and for the investment I can guarantee that you will like the tracks you identify with, but as an added bonus several others on here will make your ears prick. And that might lead you into areas of the unknown, the hidden, lost bands from the 60’s you simply never knew existed.
