The music world is scattered, at times, flooded, by sad stories of brilliant artists who didn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t, or even more tragically, were prevented from, fulfilling their desires and dreams.
This was one of two LP’s released by Shelagh, 50 or more years ago, before she disappeared from the music scene, and life itself, for more than 40 years. Surrounded by many top artists at the time and with more than a sprinkling of self-penned songs, this was certainly an offering by which she would be remembered. Her vocals are beautiful and flawless and whilst there are many choices in terms of stand out tracks, for me, ‘Waiting for the wind to rise’ is an absolute belter. And it’s all underpinned by some wonderful musicianship as you would expect, with Shelagh starring on piano.
She has moved on, still a tranquil soul from what I have read, but one framed by her past and there it should remain. We are blessed to have this recording to remind us and her beauty still remains in body and recording. Many don’t come back, let’s be blessed that Shelagh did and if you wish to return to the start of the journey, there is no better place than this recording….
*there is some stunning guitar and percussion work on here but take a closer listen to Track 2. There is mention of a ‘dobro’ in the credits. Is this what it sounds like…?
