Do I really have to tell you anything other than this LP was voted the second best folk LP of all time in 2001. I suspect that moniker still stands. And when you drop the arm onto the beginning of ‘Canadee-i-o’ you will know why. But not only that, as it displays Nic’s undoubted guitar talent, you are then set free with ‘The drowned lovers’ which then portrays his ability with the fiddle. Unbelievable stuff.
Sadly this was his last LP as he suffered a bad car accident a couple of years later and didn’t return to playing for many years afterwards. But it’s a great legacy to sign out with and one to add to any collection, no matter what type of genre of music scratches your itch.
An LP for any occasion. Even sitting here feeling slightly under the weather it is a beautiful, melodic expanse of folk music that grabs you, ties you up in knots, and gets you drifting away with the thoughts of better times. ‘The little pot stove’ is a stunning track and I can’t think of a better way of ending Side 1 of any LP. It is stunningly crafted but then again, you can say the same about every track on here. Thoroughly enjoyable.
