When you have something as delicious and dreamy as Margi Luckley’s vocals, to start an LP off without her, is testament to treason. Why would you not want to show it off in all its glory? So move on from the first track (imo), and all will be revealed.
Whilst her husband, Stu, left to form a duo with Bob Fox, I cannot find what happened to Margi which is a great shame. I hope she is well and dreamily singing quietly in a corner of the world somewhere. But there are some strong songs on here, not least of which is New York Trader, which kicks off Side B. and ‘Peggy’ which concludes Side 1. They built up a strong reputation in the local Northern folk clubs and I’m guessing it’s always a tough gig to branch out into national fame. Indeed, not many folk bands have done so.
But that is no reason to think there are some hidden gems in back catalogues and this is certainly one of them. There is enough interest and variation on here to attract and if you are dipping into the world of electronic folk music, this will not sell you short. Great musicianship from the band and as I’ve mentioned you get the added bonus of Margi’s glorious vocals….
