For anyone who lived through the musical journey of the 80’s you will recall ‘The Cutter’. Instantly catchable (is that the correct phrase?), I’ve got to say I was never convinced. There was just something about it that appeared over-created for the pop market, that held me back. And after having listened to the whole first side of the LP, 40 years later, I’m starting to regret that. It’s the least best (is that phrase correct?) track on Side A which is full of such good songs. Wonderful with no let up whatsoever.
This LP has just been re-released but there is no reason to go new. This plays beautifully and would be a great gateway into their back catalogue with music that is certainly not out of place even today. It is unusual for the mainstays of the band still to be together 40 years later – and touring - and this enduring relationship has its roots cemented in classic pieces of vinyl such as ‘Porcupine’.
There are only a few special bands worth remembering from the 80’s. This lot are up there.
