Despite a  few clicks on Side 1 Track 2 and Side 2 Track 2, and a tiny bit of background crackle in some of the quieter passages, this is a fantastic piece of vinyl. The cover is as good as anyone could hope for in a 50 year old album, slight crease in one corner and in the middle of the spine. The spine itself is beautifully legible. Labels and spindle hole are superb. Cleaned on a VPI Cyclone RCM.

While most people know and love the Caravan album ‘In the land of grey and pink’, this unsubtly titled album seems to have slipped initially under the radar. However, time has been kind to this second Caravan album and it has become something of a cult ‘Prog rock’ album. With some great musicianship and an air of improvisation, there are folk and jazz elements to this rock album. The title track is a fabulous way to start an album with a great jazzy rhythm throughout, driven by the organ and bass of David and Richard Sinclair respectively. ‘And I wish I were stoned’ has a mellower folkier feel with a great guitar solo from Pye Hastings. ‘As I feel I die’ is a track you feel Wishbone Ash may have listened to with great bass and drums/percussion throughout. ‘With an ear ….’ Brings the side to a fabulous conclusion. Side 2 starts out with great style, the rhythm and melody of ‘Hello hello’ is mesmerising. ‘Can’t be long now’ is just magical with excellent atmospheric sax and flute playing by ‘Brother James’ and stunning guitar and organ work driven along by the robust rhythm section. The album is a classic, dim the lights, get a glass or two of your favourite tipple, turn up the volume and transport yourself back to the early seventies – groooooovy.
