This album was Harry Nilsson’s tribute to the Great American Songbook and probably took his fans by surprise, with a complete departure from Son of Schmilsson (his previous release). His interpretation of such great American classics such as ‘Makin’ whoopee’ and ‘As time goes by’. Not bad for a one time mild mannered Bank manager who was later led astray by John Lennon, especially during Lennon’s ‘lost weekend’. Lennon and McCartney rated Nilsson as one of the best song writers in the world. This album however is his homage to the great timeless songs of the 20’s, 30’s etc.
